Career History

Employed as part of a team in the Technical Support Department, my main duties were to deal with customer queries in a busy Helpdesk environment. The support itself was based around our virtual hosting and dedicated server accounts on NT 4, Windows 2000 and Linux platforms. This enabled me to develop a very strong understanding of web hosting issues and applications such as FTP, ODBC (using MS SQL and MS Access with both DSN and DSN-less connections), POP3, SMTP, and an in-depth knowledge into how the internet and its' various components fit together and function to form a coherent system.
Alongside this, I have also built on my well-established interest in web design and management. I enjoy using packages such as Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and have a sound understanding of HTML and ASP which I have used extensively on my own website, which can be found on http://www.steveoliver.co.uk. I am also fairly learned in the ways of DHTML, iHTML, Perl and Javascript. The main purpose of my site is to keep in touch with my friends back home whilst on my travels and I have received a good deal of feedback from its' many users. I would relish the opportunity to develop this passion to a greater extent in the workplace and see web design as an ideal medium for this, combining my eye for design with a sound technical background in the internet.

Working in the Mortgage Amendments department in the Head Office based in Gloucester, my main duties were to amend and to update customer files using our mainframe system as well as to inform customers of new mortgage-related offers, and to deal with customer queries and concerns.
My peripheral duties in this role included a wide variety of computer-related tasks such as training colleagues in the use of Windows N.T. and Windows '98, spreadsheet management and design, template assembly for departmental use, the development of macros (using Visual Basic) for batch processing jobs as well as network maintenance and being responsible for the smooth operation of over 150 network users.
General Interests
Computing : I enjoy all areas of computing, particularly web design. I am currently learning Java and consider myself literate in both HTML and ASP. I am also a very frequent user of applications such as Fireworks 4, Flash 5, Dreamweaver 3, Paint Shop Pro 7, Photoshop and also like playing around with CuBase.
